135 and counting …
If you’re caught up on the blog, you know that my niece V has been staying with me for the past couple of weeks. For those of you who weren’t, well now you know too.
Since she’s been here, I’ve had to work a lot. You know, I get to work from home, I make sure to check in with her between writing assignments, and I take lunch breaks with her, so that’s good. But I still feel guilty about not having more time to hang out. It just sucks knowing that she’s spending so much of her vacation up here watching TV and playing Wii.
The thing is that Erica & I leave town for a secret destination this week for her birthday, and I’ve got a lot of work to do before we go. Today, I tried to do some before V got up, but that didn’t work out (read, “Facebook”) so, when she and Erica decided to go to the movies (”Bad Teacher,” Rated R; read, “bad aunt”), I was excited to have some guilt-free work time. Which is how I ended up checking my Kiva account balance and making my 135th loan.
Now, I’m not bragging, but I am proud of it. I put $500 into a Kiva account back in December of 2006, and since then I’ve been able to turn that into 135 micro-loans in 34 different countries at $25 a pop, plus make occasional donations to Kiva. So, even if I was procrastinating, at least it was for a good cause.
