But, we don’t have earthquakes in New York!
Soooooo. Today, I felt the earthquake in New York and let me tell you something: I am so totally NOT a fan of earthquakes. Hurricanes? Great! Tornadoes? Bring ‘em on. Random, unexpected, uncontrollable shaking? Fuck that.
It’s been a few hours now and I’m still nervous. It was my first earthquake and maybe if I had been in Los Angeles or San Francisco where they have those kinds of things, I wouldn’t have been so freaked out. But I wasn’t there. I was in Brooklyn where, up until 2ish o’clock this afternoon, I believed that we didn’t have earthquakes - ever.
On the West Coast, I might have enjoyed a little tremor like we had today. On the East Coast, my world was completely turned upside down. What I believed to be true is false and now I get to add one more goddamn thing to my list of things I worry about.
I also learned that I am not very smart when it comes to earthquakes. (Make that two new things for the “things I worry about” list.) Rather than retreat to a doorway like any sane person would do, I went directly to my computer to see what people were saying on Twitter.

There are at least 500 books on those shelves.
However, the understanding that I’ve become that person doesn’t bother me as much as the fact that I obviously chose the worst possible place to sit during an earthquake.
It’s cool though, I’ll get it right next time.
