What’s Happening.
I missed my daily post by three minutes. It’s just after midnight, but since I am still awake from today and am posting right now … I’m counting it. Plus I actually wrote the post while on the train earlier today, so although I didn’t put it online it still was written. That’s right. Four days in a row.
So, here’s what I’ve done since I posted yesterday:
1. I finally mailed all of my Christmas gifts!
UPS Guy: Is there any rush on sending this box?Me: No. But if you can send it back in time, that might be helpful.
2. I worked the door at Superfine for the traveling Cattyshack party.
Backstory on the traveling Cattyshack Party. Cattyshack - the bar I have been working at since I was laid off - had two owners. One was BK, the former owner of Meow Mix in the East Village, the other was her silent partner. The story is that the silent partner committed a hostile takeover of the bar. What I know is that I worked there New Year’s Eve until 5 AM, went home and two hours later the entire staff received a text message saying that the bar would be closed until further notice. Two members of the staff were retained by the silent partner … the rest of us were out of a job. Since then, BK has taken the show - and the staff - on the road. She’s been throwing Cattyshack parties at different bars around Brooklyn. One of those parties has been held at Superfine for the past two Friday nights. Last night when I got there, one of the Superfine owners came up to me.Owner: Oh good! I was hoping you’d be back. Are you working the door again?Me: Hey! Yeah. That is the most adorable outfit! (Black skirt, cool white snow boots, girly jersey like top with a big pink #5 on the back.)Owner: I am so glad you’re working the door. You did a fantastic job last week and represented us well - the way I want our door to be run, and I have only ever let one person run my door since we opened.
Superfine is this great restaurant that turns into a cool hangout after 11. It’s lesbian-owned but the majority of their clientele on Friday nights is straight. Also, they don’t usually charge a cover - the Cattyshack party does. It’s my job to break the news to the regulars and convince them to come in anyway.
Straight Guy 1: So, what do we get for $5?Me: (Indicating the go-go dancer who had just arrived.) She’s about to change into something skimpy and dance. You can stare at her ass. And, you might get a blow job.Straight Guy 2 (SG 1’s buddy): Can you give us a guarantee on that blow job?Me: Dude. It’s five bucks.Straight Guy 1: (Handing me money.) Well. Here’s to hoping.
They left later and informed me that the blow job never panned out. I told them to come back next Friday and try again.
3. I made pasta sauce and transported it to Manhattan.
I worked until 4, got home around 5 and went to bed. I got up this morning (read: noon), got dressed and went shopping for groceries. I bought sausage and onions and herbs, came home, cooked, packed it up and Erica and I headed into the city to have dinner with some friends we hadn’t seen in a long time. We hung out, ate, laughed and I talked Erica into splurging on a cab for the ride home.
It’s 1:30 now and I’m exhausted. Having completed my daily blog post, I am going to grab my fluffy little dog and head to bed.
